VSU named after P.M. Masherov opened a Centre for French Language and Culture. The ceremonial opening was attended by the representatives of the Embassy of the French Republic in the Republic of Belarus.
The Centre was set up by the Philological, Art and Graphic and Pedagogical Faculties in collaboration with the Embassy of France in Belarus. It is going to be used as a model for opening another center named after Rene Descartes.
Before the opening ceremony, the Ambassador visited the University’s exhibition of achievements dedicated to Constitution Day of the Republic of Belarus, met with the representatives of the university, students and school teachers. One of the main problems raised during the meeting was the reduction in the hours allocated for teaching French in schools.
However, the meeting proved that there is no shortage of French-speaking students and teachers in Vitebsk. Before the opening ceremony, the Ambassador and his assistant also watched an interactive forum-performance «Under the Sky of Vitebsk» in French, prepared by the students of the Philological Faculty.
According to Didier Canesse, the Centre will contribute to better mastering of the French language and better understanding of French culture and will provide grounds for carrying out projects.
Alexey (Vladimirovich) Egorov, the Rector of VSU, expressed his deep gratitude French guests for their assistance in equipping the Centre and their readiness to cooperate in realizing joint projects.
